Integrated resort operator Sands China has donated 1.0 million patacas to the Macao University of Tourism Development Foundation (UTMDF) during a signing ceremony held on Tuesday on the public university’s Taipa campus on Avenida Padre Tomás Pereira (徐日昇寅公馬路).
The event was the fourth in a series of donation ceremonies with integrated tourism and leisure enterprises, with the prior three being MGM, Melco Resorts & Entertainment, and Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG).
According to a statement on Tuesday, the donation agreement was signed by UTMDF Executive Committee Chair Cheung Kin Chung and Sands China Executive Vice Chairman Wilfred Wong Ying-wai, adding that the donation will support the university’s academic development and institutional advancement such as “optimising the learning environment, enhancing teaching and research quality, and expanding international cooperation”.
During his speech on Tuesday, Cheung, as summarised by the statement, highlighted Sands China as having “consistently placed the nurturing of local talent at the core of its corporate social responsibility, and has long supported youth development and higher education in Macau”.
He added that the donation will “further deepen industry education integration, foster closer alignment between academic learning and industry needs, cultivate a steady stream of cultural and tourism talent for Macau, and build a robust high quality talent pipeline”.
Moreover, Wong noted in his speech, which was also summarised by the statement, that “as the largest integrated resort operator in Macau, Sands China firmly believes that talent is the cornerstone of industry advancement and urban development”.
The statement also quoted Wong as pointing that the company’s support for the Macao University of Tourism not only reflects its commitment to advancing education in Macau, but also underscores its dedication to talent development as a strategic priority.
