The University of Macau (UM) has climbed six spots to 96th in the 2027 QS Asia University Rankings, breaking into the top 100 in Asia, according to a statement from the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ). The annual rankings are published by the global higher education research institution Quacquarelli Symonds (QS)*.

The Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) advanced 21 spots, moving up from 211th to 190th, the statement said, adding that the Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) made a major leap from 402nd to 306th and the City University of Macau (CityU) recorded significant gains, rising from 433rd to 370th.

The statement underscored that the QS ranking covered over 1,700 higher education institutions across the region. Four higher education institutions in Macau saw improvements in their rankings, highlighting the steady increase in local higher education competitiveness, regional influence, and overall educational quality.

Efforts are underway to push forward the development of the Macao-Hengqin International Education (University) Town, the statement said, adding that the government remains committed to supporting local universities in optimising academic disciplines, refining research resource allocation, and deepening international and regional collaboration.
