The public University of Macau (UM) and Australia’s public Griffith University have launched a joint programme aimed at cultivating international tourism and hospitality management professionals with a global outlook, according to a statement by UM last Wednesday.

According to the statement, the “2.5+1.5 (International Integrated Resort Management – International Tourism and Hotel Management) Programme” is jointly offered by UM’s Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) and Griffith University in Brisbane.

The programme adopts a dual-degree structure, allowing students to study at both institutions, the statement said, adding that participants will complete the first two and a half years of foundational and major-specific courses at UM, followed by one and a half years of study in Australia. Upon completion, students will receive a Bachelor of Science in International Integrated Resort Management from UM and a Bachelor of International Tourism and Hotel Management from Griffith University.

The initiative is open to undergraduate students enrolled in UM’s International Integrated Resort Management programme who specialise in Convention and Hospitality Management, the statement noted, aiming to broaden students’ international perspectives, strengthen their professional knowledge, and enhance their competitiveness in the global job market.

According to the statement, Griffith University is recognised for its strengths in hospitality and tourism education, ranking 28th globally and second in Australia in the 2026 QS World University Rankings by Subject for Hospitality and Leisure Management. Meanwhile, UM is placed within the 51–100 band globally in the same subject area, the statement added.

The collaboration marks a further step in international academic cooperation between the two institutions and reflects growing recognition of UM’s capabilities in hospitality and tourism education and research, the statement said.

Both universities said they will continue to deepen collaboration to nurture professionals in tourism and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences/Conventions and Exhibitions/Events) management, contributing to the development of Macau’s tourism and integrated resort industries.
