Two local men were arrested on Tuesday for taking drugs, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chong Kam Leong said during a regular press conference yesterday.

Cheong identified the suspects as a 39-year-old delivery recipient surnamed Fong and a 48-year-old vehicle mechanic surnamed Lam.

Based on a tip-off, the Judiciary Police (PJ) identified Fong and Lam as suspected drug users who frequently travelled to Hong Kong to buy and take drugs before smuggling the remaining drugs back to Macau. The police intercepted both Fong and Lam early Tuesday morning when they were re-entering Macau through the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge checkpoint. The police seized drug paraphernalia from Fong, and two small packs of methamphetamine (commonly known as ice) weighing 2.0 grams from Lam, with an estimated street value of 1,200 patacas.

Chong noted that both Fong and Lam tested positive for methamphetamine. Under questioning, both suspects admitted to taking drugs. The suspects told the police that Fong purchased drugs in Hong Kong, and after taking some with Lam there, Lam smuggled the remaining drugs back to Macau, where they split them equally. The police discovered that they had been taking drugs and smuggling them to Macau for at least a month.

The duo have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP). Fong and Lam are facing charges of drug use, while Fong is also facing an additional charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
