The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) forecast in a statement yesterday that Macau will be affected by scattered showers over the weekend and early next week.
Influenced by an easterly airstream, the weather station forecast that Macau will experience warm and humid weather today and tomorrow.
There will be light fog in the morning and evening, with reduced visibility, the statement said, urging drivers and riders to exercise caution on the roads and pay attention to traffic safety.
The observatory also said that a trough of low pressure was expected to affect the Guangdong coast over the weekend, bringing occasional showers to Macau and the possibility of the first thunderstorms of the year. The bureau urged the public to stay updated on the latest weather information, carry rain gear when going out and adjust their travel plans accordingly.
Early next week, as the weather is forecast to come under the influence of a southerly airstream, the weather station forecast that warm and humid air will intensify further. Light fog or mist is expected in the morning and evening, with a high chance of rainfall, the statement said.
The bureau advised residents to take precautions against damp weather conditions and to ensure electrical safety when using dehumidifiers.
The weather station underlined that next Tuesday’s Lantern Festival is forecast to bring in a northeastern monsoon, expected to reach the coastal areas of southern China, resulting in a drop in temperature and relief from the foggy and rainy weather.
