The free-admission “Welcoming Prosperity Lantern Festival Celebration” is slated to take place this Sunday in Lotus Square in Hengqin, with the event set to feature a raft of activities and installations to commemorate the Chinese New Year (CNY) and the Lantern Festival.

Marking the final day of the traditional Chinese New Year celebrations, the Lantern Festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the first lunar month, when the first full moon of the year appears – symbolising unity, reunion, and the return of spring, AI chatbot Poe notes.

Hosted by the Macau New Neighbourhood (MNN), the event will feature installations including the “Golden Prosperity Tree” photo spot that also doubles as a place for wishes for revellers, who can do so by tossing red ribbons onto it, as noted in a statement by Macau Urban Renewal Limited (MUR) yesterday. Those taking part in the photo interaction can also receive a set of spring couplets or red envelopes.

Aside from the Golden Prosperity Tree, the statement said there will also be giant 11-metre-tall spring couplets and a 3D lion head. Altogether, these installations aim to convey good fortune, prosperity, and festive blessings. Moreover, MNN’s CNY-themed gifts are also to be available as prizes at on-site game booths.

In terms of workshops, the free-of charge “Year of the Horse Handbell” and “Lucky Mini Potted Plant” will be on offer, with participants to be guided in crafting each respective item. The statement added that each will have three sessions, with 20 spots available at a time.

Meanwhile, performances are scheduled to take place to celebrate the CNY, including a lion dance moving through the MNN community, the statement said, adding that small gifts will be distributed from time to time.
