In response to last week’s release of the “Macau SAR Annual Report 2022” by the European Union, criticising Macau affairs, slandering the “One Country, Two Systems” principle, wantonly attacking Macau’s Law on Safeguarding National Security, ignoring Macau’s economic and social development and human rights and the rule of law, grossly interfering int the affairs of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) and China’s internal affairs, the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) expressed in a statement on Saturday “strong dissatisfaction” with and “firm opposition” to the so-called annual report by the EU on Macau

The statement noted that “since Macau’s return to the motherland, the practice of “One Country, Two Systems” has achieved fruitful results and created the best development situation in history. “Macau’s constitutional order based on the Constitution and the Basic Law has been firmly established, the legal system and enforcement mechanism for safeguarding national security have been continuously improved, the economy has achieved leapfrog development, education, technology and culture have made great progress, people’s livelihood has been significantly improved, and society is harmonious and stable,” the statement said.

The statement underlined that extensive rights and freedoms have increased Macau residents’ sense of gain and happiness.

“With the strong support of the Central People’s Government and the joint efforts of all sectors of Macau, the MSAR will surely maintain long-term prosperity and stability, and the successful practice of ‘One Country, Two Systems’ with Macau characteristics will surely go far and proceed steadily,” the statement said.

The statement underlined that Macau affairs are purely China’s internal affairs and no external forces are allowed to interfere in them.

In the statement, the office headed by Ambassador Liu Xianfa urged the EU “to find its own position, learn the general situation, put away arrogance and bias, abide by international law and basic norms government international relations, and immediately stop interfering in Macau affairs and China’s international affairs in any form.”
