A local man was arrested on Monday night for drunk driving after falling off his motorcycle on Avenida da Praia Grande (南灣大馬路), Public Security Police Force (PSP) spokesperson Sou Tak Sen said during yesterday’s regular press conference.

Sou identified the suspect as a resident in his forties surnamed Lei, claiming to be a project manager.

According to Sou, patrol officers came across the man and his motorcycle lying on the ground on Avenida da Praia Grande at around 10:30 p.m. on Monday. Upon stepping forward to assist the driver, officers noticed a strong smell of alcohol on him, prompting suspicions of drunk driving.

A breathalyser test revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 1.76 grams per litre, confirming a drunk-driving offence. Under questioning, the suspect admitted to consuming alcohol during dinner at a restaurant near Avenida Comercial de Macau (澳門商業大馬路) before riding his motorcycle to the scene, where he lost his balance and fell while slowing down.

Police have charged Lei with drunk driving, and the case has been referred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) for follow-up.

In addition to the drunk-driving charge, further police investigation revealed that Lei had committed multiple traffic violations, including parking and driving on the pavement, as well as failing to bring his vehicle to a safe stop. The police have issued separate fines for these infractions, according to Sou.
