Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai has met with Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Hebei Provincial Committee Chairman Zhang Guohua, who is also the director of the Xiong’an New Area’s management committee, where the two sides exchanged views on the joint development of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and the Xiong’an New Area.
According to a statement by the Macao Government Information Bureau (GCS) on Friday, the meeting was held at Government Headquarters on Wednesday last week.
Xiong’an New Area is a state-level new area in Hebei Province. The new area is located about 100 kilometres southwest of central Beijing.
Welcoming Zhang and his delegation to Macau, Sam stressed that his government is advancing the implementation of Macau’s 3rd Five-Year Plan in close alignment with the nation’s 15th Five-Year Plan. Sam underlined the Macau government’s commitment to advancing the high-quality development of Hengqin, participating in the coordinated development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), and better integrating Macau’s development into the nation’s overall development.
Sam said that advancing the integrated development of Macau and Hengqin and the construction of Macau’s four future large-scale projects serve as key drivers for solidly promoting Macau’s appropriate economic diversification.
Sam said that the Macau government and the Xiong’an New Area’s management committee have maintained close ties for many years. Building on this solid foundation, Sam said, both sides can further share successful experiences in industrial zone development for mutual progress. In the future, pragmatic cooperation can also be deepened in areas such as nurturing and attracting talent and developing the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) industry, jointly driving the continuous development of both Hengqin and the Xiong’an New Area.
According to the GCS statement, Zhang expressed his gratitude to the Macau government for supporting the development of Hebei Province and the Xiong’an New Area. Zhang noted that Hebei Province is vigorously advancing industrial structural adjustments while firmly anchoring itself to the nation’s strategic positioning for the Xiong’an New Area.
Zhang said that his visit to Macau aimed to learn from Macau’s successful development experience and to jointly discuss directions for future collaboration, expecting to work together to promote economic diversification in Hebei and Macau.
Zhang highlighted that in recent years, the Xiong’an New Area has fully driven sci-tech innovation, vigorously developing industries such as satellite internet, digital intelligence, AI, and new materials R&D. The new area has also been attracting talent from Beijing and Tianjin to settle and develop there, transforming itself into a new engine leading high-quality development across the entire province.
