A 74-year-old local woman died in hospital yesterday, three days after being hit by a car while crossing a road in the peninsula’s San Kio district, authorities announced.
According to a Public Security Police (PSP) statement, emergency services received a report at 12:45 p.m. on Monday regarding the accident on Rua da Harmonia (福安街). The victim was struck while crossing the road as a car was turning into Rua da Harmonia from Travessa da Corda (大纜巷). She was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.
Yesterday’s PSP statement confirmed that the woman was pronounced dead at 10:46 a.m. after life-saving efforts failed.
The statement noted that the accident was caused by “the driver’s failure to properly control his vehicle’s speed” while turning into a junction, an offence for which he has been fined. The police are urging witnesses to the accident to contact the Traffic Department on 2837 4214.
According to an earlier PSP announcement on Monday, the driver, a 40-year-old local man, passed a breathalyser test.
The Fire Services Bureau (CB) also reported on Monday that when paramedics arrived at the scene, they found the woman unconscious and breathing weakly. She had been run over and suffered fractures to her left leg and right foot, she was rushed to the private Kiang Wu Hospital for emergency treatment.
