The Macau government announced yesterday that it has set up a working group for the development of the civil aviation sector, with the aim of advancing the opening-up of Macau’s civil aviation market and its initiative to develop Macau into an International Aviation Hub for the Pearl River West Bank.
The new working group is chaired by Secretary for Transport and Public Works Raymond Tam Vai Man.
The establishment of the working group was announced in a statement from Tam’s office.
The Macao International Aviation Hub for the Pearl River West Bank is one of the local government’s four future large-scale projects aiming to inject new impetus into Macau’s long-term development.
The local government’s aviation hub initiative includes the Macau International Airport’s ongoing reclamation and expansion project, the ongoing construction of the airport’s upstream cargo terminal in Hengqin, converting the adjacent Taipa Ferry Terminal into an air-sea transfer hub, setting up more check-in centres in neighbouring cities, and strengthening direct transport links between the airport and neighbouring cities.
According to yesterday’s statement, the newly set-up working group aims to strengthen the local government’s cross-departmental collaboration and the implementation of relevant policies, thereby driving the high-quality development of Macau’s civil aviation sector.
The working group is tasked with conducting in-depth studies on promoting the development of Macau’s civil aviation sector, including the licensing of more locally headquartered airlines operating passenger transport services, and the implementation of the aviation hub initiative.
Members of the working group include officials from the Macao Civil Aviation Authority (AACM), representatives from local airport operator CAM, and officials from various other public entities.
