Over 635,000 patacas were raised for the “Oxfam Rice Event 2025” campaign, which launched last month and marked its 14th edition.
An annual flagship fundraising event by non-governmental organisation (NGO) Oxfam, the campaign continued its theme of “Fight Climate Change, Empower Smallholder Farmers”, while this edition saw a partnership with Medialink Animation International Limited to feature classic British book series “Mr. Men and Little Miss” on its rice bags and gift sets, according to an Oxfam statement yesterday.
The statement said that by late June, the campaign had set up 37 rice booths and roadshows, involving over 800 volunteers and participation from companies, schools, and organisations. It was launched on May 24-25 when rice booths were set up across Macau, followed by community and corporate roadshows.
“Volunteers and teams from Bank of China Macau Branch, BCM Bank, CTM, Macau Artistes Association, Macau Pageant Alliance, CEM, government entities, integrated resorts, local schools and community groups joined forces to demonstrate Macau’s strong commitment to climate justice”, the statement said, with the campaign receiving “overwhelming support” across the city.
The funds raised will go towards helping “smallholder farmers worldwide adapt to climate challenges and build sustainable livelihoods”, according to the statement.
