The Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said in a statement yesterday that it has urged sampled households that have yet to complete the 2026 Population By-Census to submit their questionnaires by Saturday. All completing households will automatically be entered into a lucky draw for a chance to win an electronic red envelope worth 100 patacas.
Online submission for the 2026 Population By-Census ended on Monday, while DSEC enumerators will continue visiting households that have not completed the survey until this Saturday, the statement said.
Enumerators will conduct household visits in pairs, usually between 2:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., the statement said, adding that they can be identified by navy blue uniforms bearing the DSEC logo, grey work bags, and official 2026 Population By-Census ID badges.
Households can verify an enumerator’s identity by scanning the QR code on the notification letter or calling 8809 8809, the statement noted, underlining that if enumerators are unable to reach a household, they will leave an appointment card.
Residents can then provide information through a telephone interview or arrange a household visit by calling the hotline, according to the statement. The bureau also reminded households that it will never request identity card, bank account, or credit card details, nor ask respondents to make bank transfers or remittances. Residents who have doubts can call 8809 8809 to verify information.
The statement added that residents can also check fraud risk scores and report suspicious messages through the Judiciary Police’s (PJ) WeChat anti-fraud programme, or call the anti-fraud enquiry hotline on 8800 7777 or the crime report hotline on 993.
The 2026 Population By-Census is conducted in accordance with Decree-Law No. 62/96/M, which requires respondents to provide the requested information within the specified period, the statement noted. Households that complete the survey, regardless of the submission method, will automatically enter the “Cooperating Households Lucky Draw,” with winning households receiving an electronic red envelope worth 100 patacas.
The draw results are expected to be published on the 2026 Population By-Census website at the end of September, after which winning households will be notified, the statement said. DSEC called on sampled households to complete the survey by Saturday, stressing that their participation will help provide data for future policy planning and contribute to the development of a more liveable Macau.
Macau’s population stood at 686,500 at the end of the first half of the year, according to official demographics.
