Macau’s Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) has announced in a statement that applications will open tomorrow, June 15, for a tailored internship scheme aimed at expanding career opportunities for young people from Macau by placing them within mainland Chinese enterprises that conduct business with Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking countries.
The bureau released the statement on Thursday.
According to the statement, the initiative is designed to support Macau’s economic diversification, cultivate the multifaceted talent required for industrial growth, and broaden the career horizons of the city's youth. The scheme is jointly organised by the DSAL and the Livelihood Affairs Bureau of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, with its implementation handled by the China-Portuguese/Spanish Speaking Countries Economic and Trade Services Centre (CECPS).
Leveraging Macau's unique position as a bridge between China and the Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking world, the programme offers hands-on experience to help young residents explore diverse career paths, sharpen their linguistic and professional skills, and bridge the gap between local talent and industry needs, the statement said.
15 internships
Prominent mainland Chinese companies operating in Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking markets are participating to provide these professional opportunities. The 12-week scheme offers a total of 15 internship placements based in Hengqin. Positions span sectors such as business operations, human resources and administration, finance, and legal affairs, the statement said.
Applicants must be Macau residents holding a valid Macau Resident Identity Card (BIR) and a Chinese mainland travel card for permanent Macau residents. Candidates must be under the age of 35 by the application deadline and hold a bachelor's degree or higher from a local or overseas higher education institution. They must also possess the specific skills required for their chosen placement, the statement said, pointing out that fresh graduates from the 2026 academic year are also eligible to apply.
5,000 pataca allowance every 4 weeks
The DSAL will provide each intern with a living allowance of 5,000 patacas every four weeks, alongside a one-off grant of 500 patacas to cover return transport and travel insurance. Employers will provide commercial insurance, accommodation, and lunch allowances during the internship. All other personal expenses must be met by the participants, according to the statement.
The application window runs from June 15k0-30. Young residents can find further details and submit their applications online via the DSAL internship portal at www.dsal.gov.mo.
“As places are strictly limited, eligible youth are encouraged to seize this opportunity and apply early”, the bureau said.
The Central People’s Government has designated the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) as a business-service platform between China and the world’s 28 Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking countries. These nations — including Equatorial Guinea, where both Spanish and Portuguese are official languages — account for 14.5 percent of all UN member states.
