Macao Light Rapid Transit Corporation, Limited (MLM) is encouraging Macau’s primary to secondary school students, as well as other members of the public, to create artworks depicting scenes featuring a “vibrant and friendly” light-rail commuting environment, with a chance to win cash prizes and an exhibition opportunity.

Organised by MLM in conjunction with the Macau Artist Society (MAS), the competition is themed “Travelling Together on the LRT”. It is split into two categories for those studying from P1 to P6, as well as a secondary school category for those studying from Form 1 to Form 3, and the public category, which is open to those aged 16 and over, according to the contest guidelines.

Participants are encouraged to “unleash their imagination through painting, contributing to a more vibrant and welcoming travel environment”, the guidelines said. The primary school categories feature a template for participants to paint and add their own touches of creativity. The secondary and public categories, meanwhile, must be hand drawn while watercolours, acrylics, coloured pencils, or pastels, among others, are also allowed.

Works must be original, with no computer generated, digital or AI works allowed, the statement said.

Cash prizes and certificates are up for grabs, along with an exhibition opportunity for the winning works. The top prize is 1,200 patacas, with second and third place winners to receive 800 patacas and 500 patacas respectively. The guidelines note that there will be three first prizes, five second prizes, eight third prizes, and merit awards per category.

Submissions, which can be made online or in person, are accepted until June 30, with more details, including the selection criteria and requirements per work are, available on https://www.mlm.com.mo/en/paintContest.html
