The Macau Tower Convention & Entertainment Centre’s 15th edition of its CNY (Chinese New Year) Charity Tower Walk took place on Thursday, with the event this year gathering over 2,000 participants.
According to a Macau Tower statement released on that day, the event, which raised funds for the Macau Red Cross, kicked off with the full-course 1,298 step “Strike it Rich”, which started from the ground floor all the way up to the 61st floor, in the morning. First-timer Timothy Ho Chun Ting, who travelled from Hong Kong, emerged as champion of the Men’s category with a time of 7 minutes and 59 seconds. The Women’s category, meanwhile, was won by Ruby Mak at 11 minutes and eight seconds, joining the event with her mother and daughter this year, the statement said.
Taking home the top prize for the Junior category, meanwhile, was Danny Leong at 11 minutes and 30 seconds. In all, the full course event saw around 600 participants across the three divisions. The full-course event was then followed by the half-course “Shortcut to Riches” in the afternoon and started from the 38th floor and ended at the observation deck, according to the statement.
The event has drawn over 20,000 participants since its inception in 2009. The statement quoted Macau Tower Executive Manager Francis Lam (林柱光) as saying: “Marking the 15th edition of the Charity Tower Walk, the event has grown into one of Macau’s most cherished festive traditions, thanks to the tremendous support and enthusiastic participation of all sectors over the years.”
