The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) recently promoted Macau in Spain, setting up the “Macau Pavilion” during the five-day tourism trade fair Fitur (Feria Internacional de Turismo) in Madrid.

Joining Fitur, one of the largest international tourism fairs in the world that was held from January 21 to 25, were MGTO Deputy Director Cheng Wai Tong and a delegation comprising Macau’s travel trade and integrated resort operator MGM, according to an MGTO statement last week.

At the Macau Pavilion, the statement said, Macau’s “tourism +” offerings and culture were showcased, while Macanese* delicacies and workshops related to Macau’s intangible cultural heritage were held. Also invited to visit the pavilion were Chinese Ambassador to Spain and Andorra, Yao Jing, and Minister-Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Spain, He Yong.

MGTO also showcased Macau’s “destination appeal, latest development, travel stimulation programme and other dimensions” during a destination presentation session on January 22 and on the following day, MGTO and the China Pavilion partnered for the first time for a tourism presentation on Macau and an activity featuring Macanese delicacies.

Highlighting upcoming plans, MGTO said that it will be joining this month’s “os Especialistas” (“the Specialists”) and Lisbon Travel Market (BTL) in Portugal, as well as the world’s leading travel trade fair ITB Berlin. A promotional event for travel trade and media will also be organised in London in March.

The statement highlighted that visitor arrivals from Spain, Portugal and other parts of Europe to Macau in 2025 saw “a double-digit growth” compared to corresponding figures in 2024. APAVT** also commended Macau as the “Preferred Destination 2026”, marking its fourth designation.

*Customarily, the term “Macanese” denotes Macau’s community of mixed Portuguese and Asian descent, including their culture and cuisine, as well as their diaspora.
