Macau Customs Service announced in a statement on Sunday that its officers seized 40 kilograms of silver granules* worth around 1.3 million patacas at the local checkpoint of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) on Thursday.
According to the statement, on that day, customs officers at the checkpoint’s arrivals hall noticed a local female acting suspiciously. A follow-up inspection revealed 40 kilograms of silver granules in her hand luggage, which she was attempting to smuggle into Macau. The statement said that the silver granules have an estimated market value of around 1.3 million patacas.
According to Macau’s External Trade Law, the woman faces a maximum fine of 100,000 patacas, while the seized contraband has been confiscated.
