The Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) said in a statement yesterday that the city’s cooling centre located in Ilha Verde district (青洲坊大廈) opened to members of the public at 11 a.m. yesterday due to the Yellow heat warning issued by the Macau Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) earlier in the day.

The statement noted that the shelter will remain operational until the mercury goes down.

The bureau urged residents to monitor the health of vulnerable groups, including seniors living alone, chronic disease patients, and those with weakened physical conditions.

The statement emphasised the importance of taking preventive measures against heat-related health risks.

Enquiries about the cooling centre can be made by calling 2827 0939 during office hours or 6399 1963 after hours, the statement added.

At 11:15 p.m., the temperature in Ilha Verde district stood at 29 degrees Celsius.
