The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) announced in a statement on Friday that it will organise a raft of traditional festive activities, including the Chinese New Year (CNY) Market in Praça do Tap Siac, a designated firecracker lighting area in Taipa and temporary stalls selling incense and pinwheels, as the Year of the Horse approaches.
According to the bureau the arrangements aim to welcome locals and tourists to celebrate Chinese New Year in Macau while maintaining order and safety. The statement noted that the bureau urged participants to remain aware of crowd conditions on site, follow instructions from staff and observe public order throughout the festive period.
The Chinese New Year Market will take place from noon to midnight between February 10 and 15, corresponding to the 23rd to 28th days of the 12th lunar month, the statement said, adding that on February 16, the 29th day of the 12th lunar month, the market will run from noon until 1 a.m. on Chinese New Year’s Day (February 17).
A total of 26 stalls will operate at the market, including 16 selling CNY products, six offering festive flowers and four selling snacks, the statement noted. According to the statement, a range of cultural and entertainment performances will be staged at the venue, alongside a large-scale floral art exhibition and festive lighting decorations for visitors to enjoy.
Temporary loading and unloading areas for the public and authorised vehicles will also be set up along Rua de Afonso de Albuquerque to facilitate shopping access, the statement said. In order to further enhance the festive atmosphere, the bureau will designate an area for lighting firecrackers in Taipa, located near the waterfront along Estrada Almirante Marques Esparteiro, the statement noted.
Six stalls selling firecrackers, fireworks and rockets will operate at the site. The firecracker zone will be open from noon on February 16 until 1 a.m. on February 17, and from 10 a.m. to midnight daily between February 17 and 21, covering Chinese New Year’s Day through the fifth day of the festive period, the statement said.
In addition, the bureau will set up temporary stalls selling incense, pinwheels and other traditional festive items on the waterfront pavement of Largo do Pagode da Barra, the statement said, adding that 10 stalls will operate from 6 p.m. to midnight on February 16, from midnight to 6:30 p.m. on February 17, and from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. between February 18 and 23, spanning the second to the seventh days of Chinese New Year.
