The Health Bureau (SSM) reported three separate clusters of influenza-like illnesses on Monday, according to a statement issued on the same day.

The first cluster involves seven patients (five male, two female), all students from Primary 2, Class A in Colégio Diocesano de São José 5, located on Rua Central do Ilha Verde (台山中街). The second involves four patients (one male, three female), all students from Form 6, Class “Ai” at Macau Baptist College on Rua Central da Areia Preta (黑沙環中街). Meanwhile, the third involves seven patients (five male, two female), all students from Primary 4, Class D at Pui Tou Middle School (Nam Van Campus) on Avenida da Praia Grande (南灣大馬路), noted the statement.

According to the statement, the patients began developing various symptoms, including fever and cough, starting on Saturday. Some have sought medical attention, with all cases reported as mild and without severe complications. Testing confirmed that 10 of the 18 patients tested positive for Influenza A.

The statement noted that the affected schools have implemented enhanced infection control measures, including cleaning, disinfection, and improved indoor ventilation, and are enforcing isolation rules for those who are ill.

The bureau reminded residents to take preventive measures against influenza and other respiratory illnesses. Recommendations include receiving the seasonal influenza vaccine and updated COVID-19 vaccinations, ensuring adequate rest, a balanced diet, and exercise, and maintaining good personal and hand hygiene, according to the statement.

The public is also advised to cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or elbow, maintain air circulation and a clean environment, avoid crowded places, and wear a mask when experiencing symptoms, caring for patients, or visiting hospitals and clinics, the statement pointed out. Those feeling unwell should seek medical care promptly and rest at home.
