Macau will host the “China Expo Forum for International Cooperation” (CEFCO) again in 2027, becoming the first city to stage the national-level industry event twice, following an announcement made during CEFCO 2026 in Wuhan last week, according to a Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) statement on Monday.
IPIM said it recently organised a delegation of representatives from the local exhibition industry to attend CEFCO 2026, where the organisers officially confirmed Macau as the host city for CEFCO 2027.
According to the statement, the forum is held nationwide on a rotating basis, and its return to Macau after a decade, which “reaffirms the city’s strength as a high-quality exhibition destination”.
The statement added that Macau was also awarded the “Most Influential Exhibition Destination Award” at the 20th China Events Industry Fair in 2024, marking the first time the city has received the honour.
At CEFCO 2026, IPIM led a delegation of 30 representatives from the Macao MICE industry, the statement noted. MICE stands for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions.
The event attracted more than 600 participants from over 20 countries and regions, including exhibition organisers, corporate executives and industry experts. The statement said that the participation helped the local industry gain insight into global trends, expand market networks and explore co-operation opportunities, while promoting the advantages of the Macau-Hengqin MICE sector, adding that the delegation also met Li Qingshuang, vice president of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT).
The statement noted that the CEFCO organisers selected Macau again after it stood out among several competing cities. At the exchange event “Meet@Macao – Night of Prosperity”, IPIM President Che Weng Keong thanked the organisers for recognising Macau’s previous hosting performance and said the city was eager to contribute to the high-level opening of the national exhibition industry and provide an efficient platform for international cooperation.
According to the statement, Macau has been rated “Best Convention City (Asia)” and “Best BT-MICE City” by traded magazines for three consecutive years. The statement said that this accumulated experience will add value to CEFCO 2027.
The statement also said that IPIM will work closely with the CEFCO organisers and local exhibition industry partners to prepare for the event under an integrated “exhibition + inspection + connection” model.
