The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) announced in a statement yesterday that “Operation Oops! A Musical”, a locally commissioned production, will be staged from January 31 to February 2 at the Macau Cultural Centre’s (CCM) Small Auditorium in Nape, alongside a “Local Programme Presentation Session” aimed at creating new opportunities for the local performing arts sector.
The musical is the third work under the bureau’s Commissioning Performing Arts Productions 2024–2026 programme, the statement said. During the production’s run, the bureau will invite representatives from musical theatre production companies, theatre groups and arts festivals from the Chinese mainland and neighbouring regions to Macau for artistic and cultural exchanges, with the aim of promoting local original works and exploring collaboration opportunities.
The Local Programme Presentation Session will be held at 3:15 p.m. on February 1 at the CCM Black Box Theatre (Box I), the statement noted, adding that the session is open to performing arts-related associations or companies legally registered in Macau, as well as individuals aged 18 or above holding a Macau Resident Identity Card (BIR).
The session, conducted mainly in Putonghua without interpretation, will be limited to five minutes for each presentation, the statement said.
The online registration will be open via the Cultural Affairs Bureau website at www.icm.gov.mo between 10 a.m. today and 5 p.m. on January 27, with places allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Completed forms should be emailed to cpap@icm.gov.mo, the statement noted, adding that the session will also be open for observation.
Adapted from a novel of the same name by local playwright Lawrence Lei I Leong, “Operation Oops!” A Musical” brings together regional talents, the statement said. The production features music and lyrics by Leon Ko Sai-tseung, who also serves as music director, and is directed by Fong Chun Kit, assistant artistic director of the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre. The cast is led by Jordan Cheng (鄭君熾), a multi-award-winning local performer, with choreography by local choreographer and dancer Florence Cheong Ut Ieng.
