Zhuhai’s Gongbei Customs announced in a statement yesterday that its officers seized 227 infringement goods at Qingmao Port on New Year’s Eve.
The pedestrian border checkpoint is one of the most popular between Macau and Zhuhai.
According to the statement, on New Year’s Eve morning, customs officers at Qingmao Port, during the inspection of Macau-bound travellers’ luggage, noticed anomalies in a large package carried by a border crosser and intercepted it. Upon opening the package for inspection, the officers discovered 110 Labubu* dolls, 100 doll keyrings, and 17 Wakuku** doll keyrings, totalling 227 items.
The statement said that customs officers suspected that the goods were “very probably” counterfeit. Subsequently, the traveller involved admitted in writing that all the items were purchased through an online shopping platform and were indeed infringement products, i.e., products violating intellectual property rights, such as copyright, trademark, or patent rights. The case has been transferred to the relevant authorities in the Chinese mainland for further handling.
In the statement, Gongbei Customs reminded the public that, according to the Customs Law of the People’s Republic of China, importers, exporters, and their agents must accurately declare the intellectual property (IP) status of goods to customs and submit relevant certification documents. Goods that infringe intellectual property rights protected by [mainland] Chinese laws and regulations will be confiscated and may incur fines; if a crime has been committed, criminal liability will be pursued.
