Macau govt's disabled employees scheme awards 10 disabled staff and 61 enterprises

The awards ceremony for “2025 Outstanding Disabled Employees and Inclusive Employers Recognition Scheme” was held at the Macau Tower Convention and Entertainment Centre in which 10 disabled employees were awarded prizes based on criteria including professional ethics and discipline, work capability, and job performance.

A total of 61 enterprises and organisations were commended and recognised.

Yesterday’s awards ceremony for the scheme, co-organised by the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) and Social Welfare Bureau (IAS), aimed to honour the outstanding performance of disabled individuals across various job positions and publicly commend businesses, government entities and non-profit organisations that hire disabled staff, as well as promote public recognition and support for the employability of persons with disabilities, thereby creating more employment opportunities for them.

DSAL Director Chan Un Tong noted that the government has always prioritised support for the employment of people with disabilities, such as the ongoing implementation of the “Income Subsidy Plan for Employees with Disabilities”, which provides income protection for eligible disabled staff, as well as various policies to encourage employers to hire individuals with disabilities. Chan also said that the government remains committed to building an inclusive employment environment that integrates people with and without disabilities.

Wan Fai, a cytology technician* at the private Kiang Wu (KW) Hospital, who is one of awardees of outstanding disabled employee, told reporters on the sidelines of the event that the employment environment for people with disabilities has improved, such as enhancing accessibility facilities, adding she hoped that the employment environment would develop further in the future, provide more opportunities for people with disabilities to utilise their expertise. She called on employers to provide more job opportunities for them.

Chang Tak Toi, chairman of the Association for Parents of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities, added that his association’s supported employment centre, which includes supermarket services, has over 50 trainees. Among them, five individuals with disabilities are formally employed in different positions at Rainbow House supermarket in Avenida do Coronel Mesquita, while more than 10 trainees have been successfully hired by local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
