The private Kiang Wu Hospital yesterday launched its “Yushan Medical School* and Kiang Wu Hospital Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Academic Exchange Programme”, aimed at establishing a regular exchange mechanism to foster in-depth collaboration in areas such as TCM theory innovation, clinical application, and research transformation, jointly exploring new pathways for the modernisation of TCM.
The launch for the TCM programme was held at the Kiang Wu Hospital Dr Henry Y.T. Fok Specialist Medical Centre.
Kiang Wu Charitable Association President Lau Veng Seng said in a speech that the collaboration between Yushan Medical School and Kiang Wu Hospital has continuously deepened in recent years, adding that the first exclusive exchange session in Macau with Yushan Medical School was held in 2023, followed by the mutual learning initiative on the traditional characteristic TCM therapies last year and the establishment of the “Chinese Medicine Culture Construction Promotion Alliance,” all the way to the academic exchange programme reflecting the firm belief and pragmatic cooperation between both sides in advancing the development of TCM.
Lau noted that Kiang Wu Hospital was established back in 1871, when it got off the ground with TCM services, adding that over its 154-year-long history, the hospital’s TCM services have grown to become the largest TCM department among medical institutions in Macau.
*The Yushan Medical School refers to a historical collective of physicians from Changshu who shared a medical philosophy, particularly emphasising the care of the digestive system and the use of gentle, balanced treatments.
