The “Commemorative Performance of the 76th Anniversary of the National Day of the People’s Republic of China and the Haojiang Moonlight Night - New Acrobatic Show ‘Swan’” was performed at The Venetian Theatre in Cotai last night, with the around two-hour show delivering a story of courage and determination.
The first of the two shows at the theatre, “Swan” was created by Guangzhou Acrobatic Arts Theatre Co. Ltd and incorporates drama, acrobatics and ballet, among others. It also draws inspiration from the “timeless melodies” of Western ballet classic “Swan Lake”, according to a recent Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) statement.
Featuring a top artistic team, the story follows acrobat Yu Meng, focusing on the character’s growth throughout her journey. “Through the interweaving of the ‘reality’ and ‘dream’ narratives, it portrays Yu Meng’s unparalleled courage in the face of adversity and her unwavering faith despite perplexity”, according to the Enjoy Macao Ticketing website.
The show, divided into two acts, was directed by choreographer Zhao Ming in conjunction with artistic director Wu Zhengdan, a performer and founder of Shoulder Ballet, the IC statement said. It has been chosen for the National Arts Creative Fund Programme and honoured with the “Outstanding Production Award”, the statement added.
Another show is scheduled for tonight at 8 p.m., with the bureau noting in a statement last night that a limited number of tickets are still available. Prices range between 200 patacas and 400 patacas.
