Integrated resort operator Sands China’s bilingual (Chinese & English) publication “In Search of Its Roots – An Illustrated History of Rua das Estalagens” was recognised with a PATA Gold Award for the “Best Printed Marketing Campaign (Industry)” category during the PATA Gold Awards 2025.
The ceremony was held on August 28 in Bangkok.
According to a statement earlier this week, the publication, written by Siguo Chen with illustrations by Shirley Lu, is an initiative of the company’s community revitalisation programme. It was led and produced by Sands China in conjunction with a team of local cultural and artistic professionals, including the Macao Artist Society, that handled every aspect of the publication.
“The project brought together the strength of the Macau community to tell the story of Rua das Estalagens (“Streets of Inns”)* through the voices of its people. The author conducted in-depth interviews with neighbourhood associations, merchants, and residents, capturing vivid oral histories that portray the street’s past characters, historical moments, and treasured cultural anecdotes”, the statement said, serving as a “lasting record”.
Sands China Executive Vice Chairman Wilfred Wong Ying-wai was quoted by the statement as saying: “Our initial purpose in publishing ‘In Search of Its Roots’ – part of Sands China’s revitalisation initiatives for Rua das Estalagens – was to harness community strength to record the rich cultural atmosphere and unique neighbourhood stories of this historic street, reignite the district’s century-old prosperity, and rediscover the enduring cultural heritage of the area”.
He added that the booklet “demonstrates Macau’s cultural and creative strengths on a global stage by telling a fascinating story about the city to the world” and “broadens public understanding of our history”.
The statement said that the publication has been added to Macau’s school and public library collections. Moreover, a digital edition is available on https://assets.sandsresortsmacao.cn/ebook/SCL/revitalization-of-rua-das-estalagens/index.html.
