The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) announced in a statement yesterday that the travel alert for certain regions in Israel and Iran has been lowered from Level 3 to Level 2 under its Travel Alert System, following an assessment of the current situation in both countries.

According to the system, a Level 2 Travel Alert urges Macau residents to reconsider non-essential travel, as the threat to personal safety is elevated. Residents planning trips should carefully evaluate the need for travel, avoid non-essential itineraries, and remain vigilant while abroad.

The system consists of three levels:

Level 3 – Avoid Travel: Extreme threat to personal safety, with travel strongly discouraged.

Level 2 – Reconsider Non-Essential Travel: Elevated risk requiring caution and reconsideration of travel plans.

Level 1 – Exercise Caution: Imminent threat where travellers must remain alert and attentive to developments.

At present, the system covers 110 countries and destinations, the statement noted. MGTO reminds the public that the Travel Alert System is not prohibitive, and travel decisions remain a personal choice.

Residents are advised to purchase comprehensive travel insurance that includes emergency medical evacuation before departure and to clarify insurance coverage terms directly with providers, the statement said.

Residents can call MGTO’s 24-hour tourism hotline on +853 2833 3000, or contact the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in their destination, as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Global Emergency Call Centre on +86 10 12308, according to MGTO.
