A delegation from the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) recently visited Assumption University (AU) in Bangkok for a two-day exchange to discuss their academic partnership, according to a recent statement on the private Catholic university’s website.
The visit to Assumption University’s Albert Laurence School of Communication Arts, which took place on August 14-15, was led by USJ Vice-Rector for Internationalisation and Academic Affairs, Prof. Álvaro Barbosa. The delegation focused on developing initiatives for students and academics at both institutions, the statement said.
Discussions during the visit included advancing plans for joint academic programmes such as dual-degrees, short-term courses, and student exchanges, according to the statement. The statement noted that the geographic proximity of Macau and Thailand was seen as a factor that could make such exchanges more “accessible and economical”.
During the two-day visit, a workshop on AI-powered video creation was conducted by USJ Prof. João Brochado for AU students and faculty, the statement said. The session provided hands-on experience with new tools and facilitated dialogue between students, the statement noted.
The USJ delegation also toured AU’s communication facilities during the visit, gaining insights into media education standards, said the statement. The interactions, according to the statement, reinforced the importance of global perspectives in academia.
The statement indicated that both institutions, having setup a formal relationship through a 2023 agreement, are now preparing to launch a series of joint initiatives. USJ also thanked the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) for providing funding support for the exchange.
Both USJ and AU are private Catholic tertiary education institutions.
