The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) announced in a statement that it issued yesterday an immediate food safety alert to local businesses after its food safety risk monitoring system identified potential mould on two packaged cake products imported from South Korea.

The problematic products are Orion Corporation’s “Cham Carp (Bungeo) Cakes” (original and honey flavours), sourced from South Korea, with all batches produced before July 23, 2025 and still within their shelf life. The products are being recalled.

The bureau has ordered shops to stop selling the problematic products and urged consumers not to eat them, the statement said, which did not elaborate on the health standards involved.

The bureau reminded traders to source food only from reliable suppliers and not to purchase and sell food if they have doubts about its hygiene and safety, while for consumers, the statement urged them to maintain a balanced diet to avoid an excessive intake of a particular substance.

Orion Corporation is a South Korean confectionery company, headquartered in Seoul. It is one of the three largest food companies in South Korea, and was established in 1956.

This undated handout provide by Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) shows the two problematic packaged cakes from South Korea were found to have mould on them.
