Nineteen of Macau’s eminent female calligraphers and painters are presenting over 30 artworks at the A2 Exhibition Hall of Albergue SCM*, each showcasing their styles and passion for their art.

Organised by CAC – Círculo dos Amigos da Cultura de Macau (“Circle of the Friends of Macau’s Culture”), the “Invitational Exhibition of Works by Notable Women Calligraphers and Painters” kicked off last week and gathers works of a total of 19 artists, each of whom used their brushes and inks to showcase Chinese ink art.

Exhibiting their works are China Calligraphers Association members Hong San San and Ho Lai Sim, along with artists Ng Choi Ha, Ma Tang, Fu Sio Fan, Chau Hon Va, Lam Sau Lai, Ng Kam Fong, Hong Iok Chan, He Qunzhen, Lam Hong Kun, Ng Kam Lin, Tou Im Fan, Wang Zhaorong, Wong Hei U, Tsang Tseng Tseng, Mui Kim Fan, Ng Lai Ping, and Leong Iok Leng.

In an exhibition booklet provided at last week’s opening ceremony, CAC President Carlos Marreiros noted that each of the accomplished artists bring their own styles, with works featuring traditional Chinese paintings, calligraphy, seal engravings and landscapes.

“Through this exhibition, we hope to inspire a deeper appreciation for the talent and spirit of female artists”, Marreiros said in the booklet, inviting exhibitiongoers to step into their worlds, see their achievements, and “feel the enchanting allure of their art”.

The free-admission gallery is located on Calçada da Igreja de S. Lázaro (瘋堂斜巷), with the exhibition open until August 17. Visitors can admire the exhibits from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays and from noon to 7 p.m. during the rest of the week.

*Albergue is Portuguese for “hospice”. SCM stands for Santa Casa da Misericórdia (“Holy House of Mercy”), Macau’s oldest charitable organisation.
