The Meteorological and Geophysics Bureau (SMG) issued an Orange hot weather alert on its website on Saturday at 11:20 a.m., warning the public of the city’s “extremely hot” weather.
According to the weather station, the maximum temperature on Saturday at 11:20 a.m. was 35.8 degrees. Therefore, the bureau said, it issued this year’s first Orange hot weather alert.
According to a statement yesterday afternoon, the bureau hoisted the Yellow hot weather alert, forecasting that the top temperature would reach 33 degrees or above. The observatory urged members of the public to beware of heatstroke, avoid outdoor activities and drink more water.
The local observatory has a two-level warning system for hot weather: Yellow denotes “very hot” weather, while Orange warns of “extremely hot” weather.
Meanwhile, the statement pointed out that members of the public can take precautionary measures such as avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun and taking safeguards against UV radiation; not staying inside a parked vehicle outdoors for long periods; and for vulnerable groups such as seniors, children, those with chronic illnesses, pregnant women and the obese to remain in an indoor venue offering a moderate temperature and good ventilation.
