The recently concluded “230V Macau Warmth” Photo Contest has showcased the city’s vibrant daily life through the lenses of local photographers.
According to a statement by power utility CEM on Monday, the competition, which drew hundreds of entries, was “centred on capturing Macau’s daily life through photography and promoting artistic popularisation and innovation.”
The statement noted that the competition, jointly organised by CEM and the Macao Digital Photography Association (MDPA), attracted 140 photography enthusiasts who submitted over 730 entries. The entries, the statement said, featured “diverse elements including traditional festivals, urban infrastructure, and community life.”
At the award ceremony held at the CEM headquarters, champion photographer Maria Ferreira Sin said that her winning work “Starry Dots” was “inspired by the vibrant drone performances over Nam Van Lake, which enrich the night time entertainment for tourists and residents while boosting night time economic development.” The statement quoted Sin as expressing the hope that “CEM will continue to organise similar cultural events in the future, collaborating with all sectors of society to document Macau’s development and changes through imagery, bringing art into the community, and collectively capturing more of Macau’s touching warmth”.
The judging panel, which included professional representatives from both organising bodies, evaluated entries based on three key criteria: “relevance to theme”, “creative expression”, and “technical composition”.
After multiple rounds of assessment, the top honours were awarded to Sin as Champion, receiving 5,000 patacas; Lee Tak Kit as 1st Runner-up for his work “City Lights at Dusk”, winning 4,000 patacas; and Lee Man Lok as 2nd Runner-up for “Electricity” and “Light Shadow”, garnering 3,000 patacas.
The statement underlined that 10 additional photographers received Merit Awards for their outstanding submissions, each receiving a cash prize of 1,000 patacas in addition to trophies and certificates.
