A man from the mainland was arrested on Friday for defrauding a woman out of 2,000 yuan (2,250 patacas) by selling her a used concert ticket, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Wai Chon said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Wong identified the suspect as a man in his forties surnamed Mei, who told police that he’s jobless.
According to Wong, the police received a report on January 4 from a woman who said that a man had sold her a ticket for a concert later that night while she was at a hotel in Cotai. The victim was keen to attend the concert and bought the ticket for 2,000 yuan. However, when she arrived at the concert venue, she was informed that the ticket had already been used. Realising that she had been scammed, the victim reported the case to the police that night.
Using their citywide CCTV surveillance system, the police identified Mei as the suspect and apprehended him on Friday at the Barrier Gate checkpoint as he was re-entering Macau.
Under questioning, Mei refused to cooperate.
Mei has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a fraud charge, according to Wong.
