Hotel guests dip 3.2 pct to 4.77 million in Jan-April

Macau’s 147 hotels welcomed 4.77 million guests in the first four months of the year, a year-on-year decrease of 3.2 percent, according to the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC).

In a statement released yesterday, the DSEC reported that the average hotel occupancy rate rose by 5.1 percentage points year-on-year to 89.6 percent between January and April, while the average length of stay remained unchanged at 1.7 nights.

By the end of April, the number of available guestrooms had decreased by 4.3 percent to 45,000, despite the total number of hotels increasing by four compared to the same period last year.

In April alone, 5-star hotels recorded an average occupancy rate of 90.9 percent, up 6.2 percentage points year-on-year, maintaining the highest occupancy rate in the sector.

That month, the number of hotel guests increased by 3.4 percent to 1.199 million. Mainland Chinese accounted for 71.8 percent of all guests, while foreign guest numbers rose by 12.3 percent year-on-year to 106,000. Among these, the largest groups were South Koreans (25,000), followed by Indians and Thais (9,000 each), as well as Japanese (7,000), Malaysians (8,000), and Indonesians (8,000).
