Macau Urban Renewal Limited (MUR) said yesterday that it is now aiming to start home sales in September for its Macau New Neighbourhood (MNN) residential project in Zhuhai’s Hengqin island.

MUR Senior Urban Planner Joyce Tam Hoi Ian made the remarks when attending yesterday’s current affairs phone-in programme hosted by Ou Mun Tin Toi, the Chinese-language radio channel of public broadcaster TDM.

The MNN project, which got off the ground in 2021, is being developed by Macau Urban Renewal Limited, which is owned by the Macau government.

The MNN project consists of 27 residential towers, the topping-out of which was completed at the end of last year. The project features commercial facilities as well as various social service and community amenities.

During yesterday’s phone-in programme, Tam reaffirmed that the MNN project’s final survey and formal acceptance is now expected to be completed next month, after which home sales could start in September.

The MNN project will provide around 4,000 units for purchase, as well as around 200 units earmarked as rentals for highly-qualified professionals only.

Tam also reaffirmed that Macau residents aged 18 or over who do not own any residential property in Zhuhai nor own more than one residential unit in Macau will be eligible to buy an MNN flat.

MUR has said that the MNN flats will be sold at an average price of 30,000 yuan per square metre.

Tam also pointed out that MNN unit owners can only sell their flat to those who are also eligible to buy one at least five years after they had bought it.

However, Tam said that there will be no restrictions on the prices for which MNN unit owners may sell their flats to other eligible buyers.

Also attending yesterday’s phone-in programme, Chan Ion Kei, the MNN project chief, reaffirmed that if the number of Macau residents who apply to buy an MNN flat exceeds the number of flats available, a lucky draw will be held.

Chan also noted that the MNN flats will be of the same legal nature as all other residential flats available on Zhuhai’s private property market, because of which MNN unit owners can rent their flats out.

The MNN flats for sale are fitted-out units equipped with major household appliances, such as hot-and-cold air conditioners, a water heater, a tableware steriliser, gas hobs, and a kitchen hood.
