Resort operator SJM announced at a press conference yesterday afternoon at the Grand Lisboa Palace (GLP) that it will partner with the Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Centre (CPTTM) to organise the “Grand Lisboa Palace- Beyond Legendary. Grand Gala” Wedding Gown Design Contest.

The contest’s objective is to support local fashion talents, highlight Made in Macau creations, and promote the integration of “Tourism + Cultural Creativity+ Wedding” and launch the city as a wedding tourism destination, according to an SJM statement.

The press conference was attended by SJM Chairperson Daisy Ho Chiu Fung, SJM Secretary-General Rui Cunha, CPTTM Director General Victoria Kuan, and designers from the local fashion design industry.

Ho said in a speech that SJM is honoured to co-organise the contest with CPTTM “to offer a practical platform for our designers to showcase their original designs, highlight the cultural charm and unique heritage of the city, and position Macau” internationally as an “ideal wedding destination”.

The theme of the contest was chosen to reflect GLP’s contemporary chinoiserie design, with SJM organising a guided tour of the resort tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. to inspire contestants, the statement added.

The statement added that registration for the contest is open for bridal fashion designers, wedding industry professionals, or design enthusiasts aged over 18. Only permanent Macau residents will be admitted to the contest.

Prizes will be awarded to the champion, first-runner up, second runner- up, excellence awards, and prizes for shortlisted contestants valued at over 110,000 patacas. The contest’s jury will comprise SJM, CPTTM representatives and Greater Bay Area (GBA) industry leaders.

Meanwhile, speaking with reporters after the event, Ho was asked about the opening timetable for Palazzo Versace Hotel (one of the resort’s hotel towers) and other facilities, to which she remarked that there was no fixed timetable yet.

Ho noted that it will depend on the pandemic situation and added that the number of visitors to Macau needed to be monitored before deciding on the facilities’ launch time.
