The reality cooking competition MasterChef Asia, filmed entirely in Macau, will premiere on HBO Max in the US next Tuesday, followed by telecasts on TLC and Discovery Channel, according to a recent statement by HBO Max.
MasterChef Asia is a regional competitive cooking reality show based on the original British show MasterChef. Produced by Warner Bros. Discovery, CreAsia Studio and Banijay Rights, the 10-episode series features former MasterChef contestants competing in new culinary challenges for the MasterChef Asia title, the statement said, adding that Chefs Edward Lee (Lee Kyun), “Pam” Pichaya Soontornyanakij and Kelvin Cheung serve as judges.
According to the statement, the contestants feature Vietnamese-Australian chef Khanh Ong, restaurant owner Sahadol “Pond” Tantrapim, Malaysian pastry chef Marcus Low, South Korean gastronomy specialist Areum Yoon, Nambie Jessica Marak, and Asian cuisine chefs Audrey Wicksana, Therese Lum, Mime Kataniwa, Ivory Yat and local contestant Sandy Tang (鄧善婷).
The statement also said that guest judges include Mark Wiens and Julien Tongourian.
Filmed in Macau in partnership with the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the competition features challenges at local markets, Michelin-starred restaurants and a dedicated MasterChef Asia kitchen, the statement noted, underlining that Macau’s designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy also provides the setting for the series’ focus on the city’s culinary culture.
The series will premiere on HBO Max next Tuesday, TLC will air it in Macau at 9:00 p.m., while Discovery Channel will premiere it at 7:10 p.m. next Wednesday, according to the statement.
