In the run-up to the merger of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), the Sports Bureau (ID), and the Cultural Development Fund – which is slated to get off the ground in November – the government has appointed IC President Deland Leong Wai Man to concurrently serve as the president of the Sports Bureau, effective from this coming Sunday.

According to an executive order by Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai published in the Official Gazette (BO) yesterday, Leong’s tenure as the president of the Sports Bureau will run until October 31.

The Sports Bureau was headed by Luís Gomes between September 2024 and September 2025. Since Gomes was appointed as a vice-president of the Social Security Fund (FSS) in September last year, the post of the bureau’s president has been left vacant. During the interim period, See Lei Si Leng has been the bureau’s acting president.
