Self-acceptance is not always easy. Doubts and anxiety can make it difficult for individuals to accept themselves as they are, or even prevent them from recognising their own potential.
Confidence becomes affected, while one might even be led to believe that it would be better to be anyone else but themselves. Three students, however, hope to show the importance of embracing oneself, tackling this idea through art.
The students, who are all from Sheng Kung Hui Choi Kou School (Macau), are presenting their artworks in an exhibition titled “True Me” (真與我) at the Pavilion of Exhibitions and Artistic Shows for Young People (青少年展藝館) in Praça do Tap Siac, all following the theme of embracing oneself amidst doubt and feelings of being lost.
The three exhibitors have each had a deep love for drawing since they were younger, with a statement by the organisers pointing out that art is a way for them to show how they feel, alongside their true selves.
The joint illustration exhibition is now in its final four days, ending this Sunday. Aside from the drawings, one will also find works of mixed media, messages and even related diary excerpts accompanied by drawings by one of the artists.
One might also notice a running theme throughout the venue, which is the use of butterflies. Referring to the exhibition statement by the organisers, it notes that one can “break through the cocoon and transform like a butterfly to grow”.
In presenting their works at the exhibition, organisers pointed out that they hoped to achieve not only a showcase of talent and creativity, but to boost youths’ self confidence. The artists, meanwhile, hope that exhibitiongoers can find acceptance within themselves and shine through their own merits, all the while appreciating the artworks on offer and feeling the growth of each artist, the statement said.
Exhibitiongoers may view the works until Sunday, with the gallery being open from 12 noon through 8:00 p.m. from today through Sunday.
