Sands China Ltd. held its 5th “Sands Cares Global Food Kit Build” activity at The Venetian Macao’s Cotai Expo yesterday, where team members assembled 5,000 food kits to be distributed to locals in need.
Patrick Dumont, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Las Vegas Sands Corp., as well as chairman of the board and non-executive director of Sands China Ltd., said during the event: “The initiative marks its fifth year in Macau, and its largest edition to date. Our Group’s management has returned to Macau to join Sands China team members and community partners in assembling 5,000 food kits, delivering support and care to Macau’s community.”
According to a statement released during the event, the food kits assembled this year weigh 30 tonnes in total. Each kit contains 11 food items procured from local small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), including rice, cooking oil, egg noodles, and biscuits, as well as soup packs from the Tung Sin Tong Charitable Society. The statement added that the food kits also contain healthy and nutritious recipe cards designed by Caritas Macau and Sands China’s culinary team, further enhanced with professional guidance from nutritionists at the Health Bureau.
Through this new element of the kit, the statement said, Sands China aims to promote the importance of a nutritious and healthy diet to the public, fully supporting the local government’s “Healthy Community” initiative and the “Healthy Macao Blueprint.”
Caritas Macau Service Director Judy Chiang It Sin said in a speech that the caring initiative represents not only material support but also a heartfelt expression of the community’s care for vulnerable groups, adding that the food kits will directly benefit the elderly, rehabilitation service users, and low-income families, alleviating their daily burdens.
According to the statement, around 450 participants gathered at the activity, including members of social service organisations, Sands China’s Sands Cares Ambassador community volunteers, other team members, and management executives from Las Vegas Sands.
As a firm believer in the importance of corporate social responsibility, Sands China Ltd. engages with the local Macau community as part of Sands Cares — the charitable giving programme of parent company Las Vegas Sands Corp. Key areas of Sands Cares in Macau include the Sands Cares Ambassador programme for volunteering in the local community, charitable contributions to NGOs and community organisations, and the sponsorship of community events, the statement said.
