Integrated resort operator Sands China yesterday held an opening ceremony for its “New Norm · New Mindset” Talent Development Showcase yesterday at The Londoner Macao in Cotai.

The event, on until today, serves as a large-scale showcase of the company’s talent strategy outcomes, as well as highlights its talent development pathways and elite cultivation programmes, and how it motivates self-directed learning and a growth mindset, as noted in a statement provided yesterday.  It also sees the launch of talent cultivation initiatives aimed at encouraging “self-directed learning and help position Macau as a hub for world-class international professionals”, the statement said.

Addressing yesterday’s attendees, Sands China Executive Vice Chairman Wilfred Wong Ying-wai highlighted: “For over two decades, we have invested resources in building a comprehensive talent cultivation ecosystem, as we believe that the key to nurturing talent lies not only in professional knowledge and technical skills, but also in fostering a mindset that actively seeks change and innovation. Such a mentality is crucial for team members to embrace the ever-changing market trends”.

“To achieve this goal, we have ramped up our efforts to nurture talent by enhancing our team members’ creativity and learning capabilities across various areas. This includes facilitating new capabilities, applying AI skills, developing leadership, and collaborating across the industry and the academia sector – all aimed at empowering them to better contribute to the rapid growth of Macau’s tourism sector”, Wong said.

Yesterday’s event also featured the awarding of certificates to participants of the Sands China’s Elite Development Programmes, the opening ceremony of the company’s “Western Culinary Elite Programme” and “Prestige Service Talent Development Programme”. It also saw the donation of 1.5 million patacas for scholarships and bursaries to local tertiary institutions, marking the 20th consecutive year of donations and now amounting 18.7 million patacas and benefitting over 2,100 students, as noted in the statement.

Moreover, also highlighted in the statement was the “Growth Hub” Resource Exhibition featuring booths by 20 universities and educational institutions from Macau and elsewhere in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), along with the appointment over 100 training managers and more than 500 trainers across all departments to coordinate training resources and schedules according to departmental needs, while also serving as departmental facilitators.

Today’s event will feature an AI-themed symposium co-hosted with the Macao Polytechnic University (MPU).
