A solo exhibition by local architect and visual artist Alexandre Marreiros is showcasing nearly five dozen works at Rui Cunha Foundation’s (FRC) gallery that examine his creative process and artistic development over the past decade.

Titled “The Studio of Alexandre Marreiros: Drawing and Painting”, the exhibition is on display as part of the “June – Month of Portugal in Macau SAR 2026” programme, according to a recent statement by FRC.

The exhibition features 48 artworks spanning a variety of media, including drawing, painting, photography, collage, screen printing, engraving, and mixed media. Produced on materials ranging from paper and canvas to aluminium, the collection presents a broad overview of Marreiros’ artistic output while highlighting recurring themes and visual elements that have shaped his work over the last decade.

According to the exhibition’s information board at the entrance of the gallery, the project functions as a visual essay, encouraging visitors to identify “aesthetic constants, conceptual ruptures and a visual lexicon” across different stages of the artist’s career. Rather than following a chronological sequence, the exhibition groups pieces through thematic and formal connections, revealing continuities that might otherwise remain unnoticed.

The gallery space has also been transformed into a recreation of the artist’s studio environment. Work tables, artistic tools, archival materials and other elements from Marreiros’ creative workspace are incorporated into the display, allowing visitors to view each artwork not only as a finished piece but also as part of an ongoing process of observation, experimentation and development.

Born in Portugal, Marreiros lived in Portugal and Brazil before settling in Macau a decade ago. His artistic practice often explores themes related to human presence in urban environments, colour, texture, and the transformation of built spaces. Many of his works draw inspiration from locations ranging from Brazilian favelas (shantytowns) to Macau’s rapidly evolving cityscape, the statement said.

“The Studio of Alexandre Marreiros: Drawing and Painting” will remain on display at FRC gallery through Saturday. With free admission, exhibitiongoers can visit the ground-floor venue at 749 Avenida da Praia Grande, Luen Pong Building, open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays.
