Macau’s Hou Kong Middle School Alumni Association hosted its one-day “BOC Cup – Hou Kong Alumni Association Fun Run and Relay Race 2026” at the Taipa Waterfront Leisure Area yesterday.

Association Chairman Ma Chi Tat said in a speech that Hou Kong Middle School has nurtured numerous outstanding young people and pillars of society since 1932. Ma expressed the hope that the association can continue to unite alumni through sporting activities, deepen social connections, and perpetuate the spirit of patriotism and love for Macau.

A representative of the Hou Kong Middle School Principal’s Office, surname Fan, noted in her speech that the school’s students achieved outstanding results in the 2026 university recommendation and direct admission process. A total of 13 students were admitted to Tsinghua University and Peking University, with a further 15 securing places at Fudan University.

Of the 394 senior-year students, Fan added that 308 successfully secured places through the direct admission scheme, with 216 entering the mainland’s first-class universities.

Additionally, Fan noted that the school won multiple championships earlier this year in both the “Artificial Intelligence in Defence of National Security” composition and video competition and the 2025/2026 inter-school athletics championships.

Association President Hoi Kio Heng told the Post that the event, now in its 12th year, attracted over 300 participants. The event has been effective in bringing alumni together and promoting a culture of sport within the community, Hoi said.

Hoi pointed out that the event’s souvenirs incorporate various elements of the school, such as uniform designs. He indicated that future editions may include a parent-child category and welcomed the return of graduate athletes to participate.

Lei Kam, the winner of the alumni men’s division, told the Post that yesterday’s race atmosphere and weather were favourable. He noted that the key to success in the final stage relied on regular training and perseverance. Lei advised younger students to carry forward the fighting spirit of the track and field team and expressed hope that more alumni would participate next year.

The champion of the alumni women’s division, a runner surnamed Tong, also told the Post that it was important to maintain stability at both the start and finish, with daily practice being crucial. Tong said she believes the greatest significance of the event is the opportunity to compete alongside family and classmates each year. Tong encouraged everyone to participate in a healthy and happy spirit, guided by the motto: “Sports build a healthy body.”
