A local lorry driver has been fined after crashing into the roof of an underpass in Zape yesterday morning, a Public Security Police (PSP) spokesperson confirmed.
The driver, a local man in his forties surnamed Chan, was travelling through the Avenida do Dr. Rodrigo Rodrigues underpass when the accident occurred at about 11 a.m.
Upon arrival, PSP officers found the lorry wedged inside the underpass with debris and the lorry’s roof strewn across the road. The driver subsequently passed a breathalyser test.
According to police, the vehicle first struck a height restriction sign at the underpass entrance before colliding with the ceiling. A structural inspection confirmed the underpass was not damaged, and the lorry was eventually removed by a crane.
Chan was found to have violated Article 5 of Macau’s Road Traffic Regulation for failing to adhere to warning signs, an offence carrying a fine of between 300 and 1,500 patacas.
Additionally, he was cited under Article 30 of the Road Traffic Law, which requires drivers to regulate their speed based on road conditions, vehicle characteristics, and load to avoid foreseeable obstacles. This breach carries a further fine of 300 patacas.
