Macau ferry operators to hike fares from Saturday

Hong Kong-based TurboJET and Cotai Water Jet have announced in separate statements that the fares for their ferry routes between Hong Kong and Macau will rise from this Saturday.

According to the statements, due to the recent steep rise in fuel prices, coupled with sustained increases in the cost of goods, both companies have received approval from the Macau government to adjust their fares.

TurboJET offers four classes of travel: Economy Class, Super Class, Premier Grand Class, and Premier VIP Cabin. Fares for the Hong Kong–Macau route will rise by 10 per cent. For Economy Class, the weekday day sailing fare will increase from HK$175 to HK$194; the weekend and holiday day sailing fare will rise from HK$190 to HK$212; and the night sailing fare will soar from HK$220 to HK$242. Regarding the four-seat Premier VIP Cabin, the day sailing fare will increase from HK$2,480 to HK$2,736, while the night sailing fare will rise from HK$3,310 to HK$3,642. The company also stated that the discount for Macau residents and children aged 1 to 11 remains unchanged at HK$18 per trip. Children under the age of one travel free of charge when seated on the lap of a parent or guardian.

Concerning the Macau-Shenzhen route, Economy Class tickets will rise from HK$235 to HK$259. Premier VIP Cabin tickets will increase from HK$2,680 to HK$2,948.

 According to Cotai Water Jet’s statement, the ticket price for its Macau–Hong Kong weekday day sailing will rise from HK$170 to HK$192, while the weekend ticket price will increase from HK$190 to HK$209. The company further stated that prices for First Class will remain unchanged at HK$330. Passengers departing from Macau have the right to pay in patacas, Macau’s sole legal tender. 

Tickets purchased in Hong Kong will be charged in Hong Kong dollars.
