A banned driver was apprehended last Saturday following an argument with his ex-girlfriend, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lei Chan Hong revealed during a regular press conference yesterday.

The suspect, a clerk in his twenties surnamed Cheng, was identified by Lei.

According to the spokesman, the police received a report from the victim regarding a dispute at the Cheng Choi Building public car park in the Ilha Verde district earlier that day.

Upon arrival, officers located both the victim and the suspect. Both parties admitted to a verbal altercation that escalated into pushing and shoving over relationship issues.

During the investigation, the victim informed officers that Cheng had been driving a vehicle despite being under a court-ordered driving ban. Cheng subsequently admitted to the offence, noting that his licence had been suspended from January 2026 to January 2027.

Lei did not disclose the original reason for the suspect’s disqualification.

The incident began at about 12:30 a.m. on the day in question, when Cheng drove to Rua de João Lecáros to collect his ex-girlfriend. An argument broke out inside the vehicle and continued into the car park, where the physical confrontation occurred. The victim eventually called the police for assistance.

Cheng faces a charge of aggravated disobedience for violating his driving ban. He was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) earlier this week.

Cheng faces up to two years behind bars.
