Macau visitor arrivals in Feb rise 32.6 pct to 4.17 million

   Macau recorded 4.172 million visitor arrivals in February, a year-on-year increase of 32.6 per cent, driven by the Chinese New Year holidays, the Statistics and Census Bureau said in a statement today.

Same-day visitors (2.676 million) and overnight visitors (1.496 million) rose by 41.8 per cent and 18.8 per cent, respectively.

Visitors’ average length of stay fell by 0.2 days year-on-year to 0.9 days (21.6 hours). Overnight visitors’ average length of stay dropped by 0.1 day to 2.1 days.

Visitors from the Chinese mainland rose by 43.6 per cent year-on-year to 3.291 million in February, accounting for 78.8 per cent of the total number of visitor arrivals.

Visitors from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (591,300) and China’s Taiwan region (89,628) rose by 2.0 per cent and 31.9 per cent, respectively.

Foreign visitors dipped by 3.3 per cent year-on-year to 200,848 in February, accounting for 4.8 per cent of Macau’s visitor arrivals that month.

South Korea (55,994) and the Philippines (45,195) continued to be Macau’s top two visitor source markets.

In the first two months, the number of visitor arrivals rose by 15.1 per cent year-on-year to 7.820 million.

Last year, Macau’s number of visitor arrivals reached a record 40.069 million, up 14.7 per cent year-on-year.


According to official demographics, Macau, which covers 33.4 square kilometres, had a population of 688,900 at the end of last year, or 20,625 people per square kilometre.
