The Judiciary Police (PJ) apprehended a man from Indonesia on Saturday for smuggling 522.2 grams of heroin to Macau, concealed within his body, PJ spokesman Chao Teng Hin said during a special press conference yesterday.
Chao identified the suspect as a 29-year-old male surnamed Hadi who claimed to be jobless.
According to Chao, based on a tip-off, the Judiciary Police (PJ) identified Hadi as a drug trafficker. Officers apprehended Hadi upon his arrival in Macau from abroad at the airport on Saturday. Using a body X-ray scanner, the officers discovered that Hadi had multiple egg-shaped foreign objects concealed within his body.
Chao added that Hadi was taken to a hospital for examination, where he excreted a total of 52 egg-shaped items. The police later confirmed that these items contained heroin, weighing a total of 522.2 grams, with an estimated street value of 730,000 patacas.
Chao noted that Hadi was hired by a drug-trafficking syndicate to smuggle drugs from abroad hidden inside his body, with a promised “remuneration” of 12,000 patacas.
The police seized a total of 522.2 grams of heroin, as well as US$551 (4,420 patacas) in cash from Hadi.
Hadi was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday, facing a charge of drug trafficking.
